I didn’t plan this, but…

I started with a Magnolia. One became two, then a composition began to take shape. By the time it was finished something unexpected had happened.

Almost everything in this botanical collage is a scent. Not just any scent, these are the exact botanical fragrances you find drifting down the air freshener aisle at your local mega-mart. Magnolia. Jasmine. Lavender. Vanilla. Rosemary.

I accidentally drew a fragrance collection.

This is what creating art with aphantasia actually looks like. No mental images, no plan, no preview. Just a blank canvas and whatever the piece decides to become. Apparently this one wanted to smell nice.

Fragrant Gathering is proof that the most unexpected things can happen when an artist has no idea what they are making until it is made. I only knew I wanted to draw a botanical collage.
