It started at a rest stop.

On a road trip last October, something caught my eye on the wrong side of a chain link fence. A fallen tree, tangled in the wire, surrounded by autumn growth just beginning to turn. Most people probably walked right past it. I took a photo.

That photo became this.

Autumn Before Dawn is a quiet nighttime autumn botanical print, botanically framed on both sides, anchored by a warm brown fallen log crossing the center. The sky is deep and dark, the stars are exactly where they should be for an autumn night, and somewhere up there, something is not quite right. Look closely. The sky has a secret or two.

A word of caution. Stare at that sky long enough and you may find something that leads somewhere else entirely. Just saying. The Big Dipper is up there, exactly where it should be on an autumn night. The Little Dipper too. But not everything in that sky is a star, and not everything that looks like a hole is just a hole. If you find the wormhole, well, nobody warned you. Actually, this is the warning.

The warm brown log and navy sky mark a new direction for the Vignette Series, quieter and warmer than the pieces that came before, but no less mysterious.
